Local Authority

  • A unique feature of AngelEye is that a single system can control multiple pools of up to 50 metres in length at a single facility.
  • Each lifeguard wears a smart watch which gives them freedom of movement negating the need for static lifeguarding
  • Real time view monitors can be fitted to lifeguard chairs enhancing human skills
  • Can help to optimise operational overhead
  • Easy integration with moveable floors, the system automatically recalibrates depending on the location of the moveable floor.
The AngelEye computer vision drowning detection system is a state-of-the-art underwater monitoring and advanced warning system designed to enhance swimmer safety and lifeguarding operations.

Using the advanced, underwater camera system and artificial intelligence software (AI), all swimmers are monitored simultaneously regardless of the bather load. AngelEye detects potential submersion risks in a matter seconds, notifying lifeguards/responders through wireless smart devices.

Ideally suited for high-volume public pools, hotels and spas as well as residential complexes, AngelEye maintains a focus on safety under the most challenging situations, both indoors and outdoors—day or night.

Be Safe - Be Secure

AngelEye tracks every swimmer in a single or multi-pool configuration, at the location it is needed most—in the water and in areas of greatest danger.

AngelEye has advanced AI software and monitoring system analyses swimmer behaviour and detects non-movement or irregular movement, which could lead to a situation where the swimmer may require assistance.  At this point an alarm is generated.

The warning alarm is transmitted via the AngelEye network, using AngelEye smart watch technology.  The smart watch displays a snap shot image and location of the swimmer in difficulty.

A typical AngelEye system has special video cameras mounted below the water which relay information about the swimmer’s behaviour and location back to a central server.

If the system detects a person in a potentially dangerous situation that might require assistance, an alarm is generated and sent to a smart watch worn by the lifeguards or responders.  The smart watch will display a visual image of the person in danger and their location where the alarm was generated.  Images are stored on the main server for up to 7 days as standard, unless there is a ‘confirmed alarm’ in which case the particular video will be stored indefinitely for retrieval at a later date.

All systems are connected to the AngelEye Secure Server in the Cloud, which constantly monitors the integrity and performance of all installations, it also uploads software upgrades when they are issued.  The Server also stores the configuration of each installation so that if there is hard disc failure the operating system can be restored with minimum down time.

AngelEye is a proven technology with over two hundred systems operating worldwide on a daily basis.

Real Time Monitoring

AngelEye enables lifeguards to visually monitor in real time, all activities above and below the water using robust, high brightness monitors. The number of cameras and their layout on the screen can be configured by an administrator and unique to each monitor.

Automated Recording

The AngelEye System records all the activities below the water, and above if aerial cameras are installed for a period of 72 hours as standard. If an alarm is confirmed by a lifeguard then a configurable length of video before and after the alarm will automatically be stored indefinitely in an archive location on the local server.

The storage of video information on the AngelEye System should be added to the existing CCTV documentation at the facility which should conform to local regulations concerning Data Protection and the Privacy Act.

Aerial Survey Cameras

To enhance the performance of the below water cameras, aerial cameras are often fitted to provide more accurate detection and location particularly in shallow pools or where the water quality is not perfect.

Computer Vision Drowning Detection
Frequently Asked Questions

Q1.  How AngelEye works?

A1.  AngelEye technology is based on artificial Intelligence using complex software developed by AngelEye engineers. It is a rule-based system with a very high number of algorithms controlling the system.  The system comprises high performance video cameras located in the walls of the pool tank feeding information to the detection software operating on a local server.  An AngelEye wireless network is used to transmit alarms to either Palm Devices or Smart Watches which display a snapshot image and location of the alarm.   All swimmers are monitored simultaneously and there is no need for swimmer participation i.e. nothing to wear.

Q2.  Can the system detect a potential casualty before they reach the pool floor?

A2.   AngelEye is unique having the ability to detect a person that may require assistance before they become stationary on the pool floor.

Q3. Does the system rely on lifeguards looking at a monitor as part of their scanning process?

A3.  For normal operation the AngelEye System does not require a static monitor for viewing purposes, however a monitor can be added as an option if required.

Q4. What is the minimum depth at which the system can operate?

A4.  A typical minimum depth would be 1.2 metres, the reason being there is less likelihood of people standing and restricting the views of the below water cameras.

Q5.  What is the minimum time interval between submersion and alarm activation?

A5.   If a person is in difficulty and has broken one of the rules, then the aim is to generate the alarm within 30 seconds.  This is an adjustable parameter but must be balanced against the acceptable number of false alarms and what is an acceptable maximum time before the lifeguard/responder is notified.

Q6.  Can the system be ‘confused’ by lines or other features on the pool floor?

A6.  The system is intelligent and during the commissioning period it learns the parameters and features of the pool.  This basic configuration is stored on the AngelEye cloud-based server.  The lane markers or other permanent features are considered as part of the normal “scene” and, therefore, detection is operational in these areas.

Q7.  If a camera fails, does this render the whole system inoperative?

A7.  A single camera failing will not render the system inoperable, notification will be sent to the receiving devices.  Please note a failed camera is a very unusual occurrence on an AngelEye System.

Q8. Does the system require an active broadband link to a central server to operate?

A8.  A broadband link is required for the on-line services which includes configuration, system monitoring, servicing and software upgrades.

Q9.  Where underwater cameras are used, how are they accessed for servicing and repair?

A9.  The below water cameras are set in housings which contain enough spare cable to reach the deck of the pool for servicing.

Q10.  Is there a service frequency for the cameras and other hardware?

A10.  The cameras are monitored for performance automatically by the on-line service; as part of the annual service the camera windows are checked for clarity and field of view.  The software for the system is updated as and when required throughout the year.

Q11.  Does service maintenance require a pool closure?

A11.  Scaffolding is not required for servicing the cameras, any work is carried out without downtime for the facility.

Q12.  If the broadband service fails will the system still be operative?

A12.  The system remains operative even if the broadband link fails.

Q13.  How easily can the system be isolated for periods when the pool will have activities likely to trigger alerts?

A13.  A Palm Device is used to turn off the detection in any zones where special events are occurring.  This function can only be carried out by administrators with the appropriate access rights.

Q14.  Can the pool be part isolated when there is shared use?

A14.    Yes, the pool can be divided up into areas of detection and non-detection.

Q15. Has the system been tested against BSEN ISO 20380 and does it meet the standard?

A15. AngelEye complies with Standard 20380 and in many instances exceeds the standard.
