Drowning Prevention Week: Pool Safety during Quarantine

With summer fast approaching, and public recreational activities postponed due to COVID-19 restrictions, you may be looking for alternatives on how to keep your children busy and entertained. We have already talked about how paddling pools can be a great alternative to the public pool to cool off with the family, and the precautions that should be taken. We would like to share with you now some great activities you can do with your children without leaving your home!

The Royal Life Saving Society has created a handy informational pack, filled with activities, quizzes and competitions to help teach potentially lifesaving information to children, these fun packs are available here.

In our #DrowningPreventionWeek announcement, we had outlined the reasons this years campaign is more crucial than ever. COVID-19 has impacted us all in many ways, the main causes for concern being the closure of safe swim venues such as pools and extra strain on emergency responders. This is why, this year’s campaign is focusing on encouraging individuals to #BeALifesaver and equip themselves with the knowledge to protect themselves and their loved ones.

New resources are being added to the water safety fun packs every day! Resources like word searches and mental challenges are a fun way of challenging and engaging your young ones, whilst creating excitement for swimming, make sure to check back in for new additions!

For those who do not have access to a printer, these materials are also readily available as PDF’s, ensuring you and your family do not miss out on the fun! This will require you to download a free PDF markup app, such as PocketBook, which does not require the internet, meaning you can work through the fun packs anytime, anywhere.

Feel like you know your stuff? In addition to the educational fun packs, RLSS have also provided a range of quiz materials and formats allowing you to create your own questions, so you can test your knowledge against the whole family!

Are you or your children pool safety experts? Feel free to enter the RLSS’s Rookie Activity competition and share your results with your friends and contacts or in the RLSS Facebook group to see how your results compare, one lucky winner will win a years free membership to the RLSS Lifesaving Academy for you and your family. For a chance to win simply complete your activity sheets and share photos of the fun either on:
